In 2024, Shell deployed an ExR-2.5 inspection robot on a normally unmanned offshore platform 175 km offshore; in six months it ran twice-daily rounds, recorded 1,997 inspection points and completed 80% of missions without intervention.

Between 2020 and 2022, Shell, Dow and ExRobotics ran pilot tests of the ExR-1 inspection robot; the experience led to the fully autonomous ExR-2, developed in collaboration with Shell Pernis and Dow Terneuzen.
