How it works on your site

The Brokk 170 is a tracked, remote-controlled electric demolition robot from Brokk of Sweden; it runs on a mains cable, and the operator drives it from a SmartRemote by radio up to 300 m or by cable. Swappable hydraulic attachments (breaker, concrete crusher, grapples and buckets) set its work: structural demolition, soft strip and sorting of material. Brokk launched the 170 in 2018 as the successor of the Brokk 160 and keeps its product page live, while Brokk's model comparison page, checked 2026-09-29, lists only the newer Brokk 170+ (launched January 2024); RIC's record holds one production case, Crossrail Paddington, where the source does not name the model, and one research platform at RWTH Aachen.

Material Sorting & Segregation

With a clamshell bucket or sorting grapple fitted, the operator picks and piles debris by material type from the remote. Load-out and container handling remain crew and plant work.

Soft-Strip / Selective Salvage

Brokk lists a multi-purpose grapple and a sorting/demolition grapple for the 170 and describes grapples as ideal for soft demolition and stripping structures inside buildings. Hand salvage of reusable items stays with the crew.

Structural Demolition

The operator works the breaker or crusher from the SmartRemote at a distance from the machine. The crew still sets the demolition sequence, clears and loads out the debris, manages the power cable, and checks lift and floor load ratings before moving the machine between floors.
