How it works on your site
Gecko Robotics' TOKA crawlers are magnetic-wheel robots that climb steel boiler water walls, tanks, piping and ship hulls carrying ultrasonic probes that record wall thickness. Gecko supplies the crawlers with its own crew as a service; per the vendor, one inspector drives the robot while a Level II NDE inspector reviews the data as it is collected, and the thickness maps feed remaining-life models. At AMBIT's Grant Town power plant, the plant manager told POWER magazine that the crawlers map wall thickness across 100 percent of the water walls on both CFB boilers, where manual UT took spot readings at various locations. Gecko is shipping and works in power, oil and gas, defense, pulp and paper and mining.
