How it works on your site

Rematter AG, a Swiss maker of earth-timber floor slabs, prefabricates them with industrial robot arms that compact earth directly into frames of solid, glue-free timber beams closed by a three-layer wood panel. The elements leave the factory with little drying time for fast erection on site, and their dry, screwed connections let every component be taken apart and reused. Rematter sells the finished slabs to architects, engineers and developers of housing, offices and schools; the robots stay in its own production.

Component Fabrication (Panels, Frames)

In Rematter's factory, industrial robot arms compact rammed earth, with no additives, into a frame of solid timber beams, and a three-layer wood panel closes the element. The finished floor slab leaves the plant needing little drying time, ready for a carpenter to set on site.

Will it work on your site

Site preparation
The prefabricated elements need little drying time and allow fast erection on site.
What it prints
Earth-timber floor slab elements: solid timber beams with rammed earth infill under a three-layer wood panel, sized per project for housing, offices and schools.
BIM/CAD requirements
Designed per project: Rematter engineers dimension the slab with the architect from early planning, free of charge, and publish a pre-dimensioning table.
Environment
Off-site, in a controlled factory environment: Rematter's production facility in Aargau, Switzerland.
Certifications
Slab elements: certified fire resistance REI60, REI90 on request; airborne sound R'w of 53 dB or more and impact sound Ln,w of 53 dB or less, depending on flooring.
Generation
Rematter industrializes an earth-timber slab first developed with Senn, Herzog & de Meuron and ZPF Ingenieure for the HORTUS office building.

Other capabilities
Robot arms compact earth directly into the timber assembly, with no cement stabilizers. The maker's own footage shows an arm-held vibratory plate compactor working between timber beams.
