Summary
The COBOD BOD2 is a modular gantry-based 3D construction printer that deposits cementitious material layer by layer through a tangential steel nozzle, printing structural walls for residential, commercial, educational, and industrial buildings. It covers two subtasks within concrete construction printing: material mixing and feed, and layer deposition; reinforcement, roofing, MEP, and finishing stay with the crew. The BOD2 has been shipping since 2017 with 85 printers delivered to 23 customers across six continents, and COBOD maintains offices in Copenhagen, Miami, and Kuala Lumpur.
How it works on your site
Material Mixing and Feed
The BOD2 extruder accepts locally approved cementitious mixes with aggregates up to 10 mm, which means crews can source material regionally rather than importing proprietary mortars. A concrete mixer-pump feeds material continuously through a hose to the gantry-mounted printhead. Three to four operators manage the material supply chain during printing: a printer operator, a materials operator, a materials operator helper, and a hands-on helper.
Layer Deposition (Printing)
The gantry moves the printhead along X, Y, and Z axes within a modular steel truss frame, depositing walls layer by layer without formwork. The tangential steel nozzle follows the movement direction, smoothing or texturing the wall surface during printing and reducing the need for post-treatment plastering. Onboard sensors measure the foundation surface and generate a height map; the printer compensates automatically for unevenness during the first layers until the print is level. Operators stop and start extrusion at any point to create openings for doors and windows.
